What
an unbelievable blessing and joy it is to be able to be a part of
God's ministry, and do what you love all at once. It amazes me how
the Lord has allowed me to combine the two passions in my life; which
are sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the game of basketball. I
never would have dreamed growing up when my love for basketball
started that one day I would use it as a tool to win young people to
Christ.
About
four years ago I was invited to the Philippines to conduct several
basketball clinics. It was then that the Lord began to show me how I
could use the game of basketball to bring honor and glory to His
name. When the clinics were concluded, there had been 24 professions
of faith. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
At
this time, FastBreak Ministries is being held in the Barangays where
EIM is conducting feeding programs. A Barangay is the name for a
village in the Philippines. At each clinic, we work with
approximately 30 kids, ages 10 to 14.
The
clinics consist of the fundamentals of basketball. We spend the
morning hours doing dribbling, passing and shooting drills. We break
for lunch midday where we supply the kids with a meal. After lunch
we present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the boys and the spectators
who have gathered to watch. We then give them an opportunity to
accept Christ.
It's
been a blessing to see that in two years there have been
approximately 200 professions of faith.
After
the Gospel has been presented we split the kids up in teams. We then
give them their own basketball jersey which has our FastBreak
Ministries logo on it. They absolutely love having their own jersey.
After putting it on, we break up into teams and play a basketball
game.
We
are praying that God will allow us to have our own place to conduct
the clinics as well as share the Gospel and to teach them the Word of
God.
At
that time the Lord began to speak to me that this is what He wanted
me to do and this is the kind of ministry He wanted me to begin. Two
years ago I moved to the Philippines and "FastBreak Ministries"
began.
I
ask that you remember to lift us up before God that we may be found
faithful doing what God has called us to do. Also we thank you for
your financial and prayer support that you have given this ministry
over the past two years.
