Nepal
Meet Debendra Kumar Sambahamphe!
God has allowed EIM to go into many countries and preach the Gospel. In every country, He has shown Himself faithful touching the lives of men, women, boys and girls and in all of this we are humbled to know that God has allowed us to be a part of His great work. Of all the countries that we have been blessed to work in, Nepal has proven to be one of the most exciting places that we have ever ministered.
Some three years ago, God allowed us to meet and begin to work with a young man named Debendra Kumar Sambahamphe, whose Christian name is David. What an exciting young man he is! The newsletter this month is going to feature Pastor David and the country of Nepal. Let me introduce the work to you and the vision of Pastor David and EIM.
More than 20,000 Tibetan refugees are reported to be residing in various refugee camps in the country of Nepal. Two of those camps are in the Kathmandu Valley. It is estimated that 2,500 to 3,000 Tibetan refugees enter Nepal every year after a long and hard journey through the Himalaya passes from the Chinese regions of Tibet. Tibet is one of the most restricted areas for the Gospel in the entire world. It is a Buddhist extremist area where the Tibetan language is spoken. Many servants of God have tried and are still trying to reach people and plant a church, but still there are none. God has given Pastor David a plan that will allow him to go and do His work in Tibet.
Here is an outline of Pastor David's vision for beginning this extreme mission.
His first priority for missions is to evangelize with the Gospel and establish fellowship with humanitarian aid among the Tibetan people. He wants to plant a church on the border of Nepal and Tibet by which he would be able to enter into Tibet.
After planting the church on the border, he plans to work in surrounding areas that will allow him to enter Tibet with small medical and education missions. He will take gospel tracts in the Tibetan language as well as some humanitarian aids. As the Tibetan people come to the border of Nepal, he's praying that God will allow him to present the gospel and hopefully win some Tibetans to Christ. After receiving Christ, he would begin to disciple them in order for them to go back into Tibet and hopefully be able to work with that believer and plant a church through his family and neighbors.
To get an idea of the ministry focus, one would have to understand the country of Nepal. There are 315 ethnic people groups and among them there are 292 groups that have not been reached with the gospel of Christ! So our vision is to reach those 292 people groups within the next few years.
It is also the vision of Pastor David to train pastors in the Word of God because 95% of the leaders have no training of any kind and cannot afford to go to a Bible College or training center. We plan to develop a Mobile Bible Training School (MBTS) to train these pastors and workers who will no longer be hindered from learning because of their poverty.
We hope you are blessed and touched when reading about the country of Nepal and all the things God is doing there. Please remember our brethren in Nepal with your prayers. They deal with persecution and poverty. But they are rich in Christ. Especially commit to pray for Pastor David. He is a loving, quiet, unassuming man with a gentle spirit who loves God and loves his people.
